Deadliner is a study planner. Most of it runs entirely on your phone and needs no account and no internet connection. This page describes exactly what leaves your device, what does not, and why — in specifics rather than in general terms.

The short version

stays on your phone, always

Your tasks, classes, deadlines, calendar, focus sessions, notes and files. None of it is uploaded to us, and we have no server-side copy of any of it. If iCloud is on, Apple keeps it in sync across your own devices in your private iCloud storage — see iCloud below. Without an account, the only thing that reaches our servers is the anonymous usage counts described below, which you can switch off.

never collected, by anyone, ever

What an account adds

An account is optional. It exists only for the parts of Deadliner that involve other people: teams, seeing who is working right now, and finding out when somebody accepts a class schedule you sent. If you do create one, this is the complete list of what is stored on our servers:

StoredWhat it is and why
Email addressIdentifies your account and delivers password resets. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive whatever address that service gives us — including Apple's private relay address if you choose to hide yours.
Display nameWhatever you typed as your name. It is shown to people in your teams and to anyone you send a class to. You can leave it blank.
A random IDA random number generated on your phone. It is not derived from your device and cannot identify your hardware. It is what lets a classmate's copy of the app recognise two links as coming from the same person.
Teams you are inThe team's name, its invite code, and which accounts are members.
Focus statusWhile you are in a focus session: the class you are working on, which visual world you chose, and when the session ends. It carries an expiry and deletes itself. There is no history of your sessions on the server — that stays on your phone.
Class acceptancesIf you accept a class schedule somebody sent you, we record that it happened and the class name, so the sender can see their link was used.
Messages and shared filesWhat you send in a team or direct conversation, and any file you choose to share into one. Only members of that conversation can read them. A file you shared can be deleted by you at any time; photos have their location removed before they are uploaded.
Notification tokenIf you allow notifications, the address Apple gives us for sending them to your phone, and which conversations you have muted.
Subscription statusIf you subscribe to Deadliner Premium: whether it is active, which plan, and when it renews or ends. Payment is handled entirely by Apple; we never see your card or billing details.

That is everything an account stores. There is no table of your work, your grades or your habits, because the app does not send them for keeping. The one other thing Deadliner writes to a server is the usage counts described below, which are not attached to your account or to you.

Premium's AI features

If you subscribe to Deadliner Premium and use its study agent — tapping your companion to ask something, laying out your week, or reading a syllabus — the text that question needs is sent through our server to Anthropic, which runs the Claude model that answers it. That can include your task titles, due dates, class names and meeting times, and the text of a syllabus you chose to read. It is sent only when you use one of those features, never in the background.

We do not store what is sent or what comes back; our server records only how much each request cost, so it can keep within a spending limit. Anthropic processes the request to answer it under its commercial terms: it may keep it for a limited period for safety review, and does not use it to train its models. Without Premium, nothing is ever sent to an AI service.

iCloud

If you are signed in to iCloud, Deadliner keeps your own work — tasks, classes, calendar, focus history and class documents — in sync between your devices using Apple's CloudKit. It is stored in your private iCloud database, counts against your iCloud storage, and is not readable by us. Turning iCloud off for Deadliner in the Settings app stops syncing; your work stays on the phone.

Being visible is a choice

Your teams can see when you start a focus session. You can turn that off at any time in Settings → appear at the fire. When it is off, no status is written at all — your teammates see exactly what they would see for somebody who is not working. Deadliner never invents a status for you and there is no "last seen" anywhere in the app.

Usage counts

Deadliner keeps a small count of how it is used, so I can tell whether people come back after the first week. This is the only thing the app sends without an account, and it is the complete list of what goes:

Counts, never content. No task titles, no class names, no due dates, no notes, no files, no message you typed. A number about your tasks is not your tasks.

These counts are sent under a random number generated on your phone for this purpose alone. It is not your account, not your email, and deliberately not the random ID described above that rides inside class links — joining the two would turn an invite into a tracking token, so they are kept apart. The counts are not linked to your identity and there is no way to read them back to a person.

You can turn it off in Settings → about & feedback → share usage counts. Turning it off stops new counts and deletes both the days waiting to send and the random number itself, so switching it back on later starts fresh rather than picking up where you left off. Erase everything clears them too.

Sharing a class

When you send a class to a classmate, the link contains the class name, its term dates, its meeting times and rooms, the dates from its syllabus, your random ID, and your display name if you set one. It never contains your tasks, your plans, your focus history or anything else from your semester.

You choose how that link travels — a message, an email, wherever you paste it. Anyone who has the link can open it, so treat it the way you would treat any link you send.

Who else is involved

Nobody's data is sold, rented, or shared for advertising. There are no advertisers.

Deleting everything

Deleting the app removes everything stored on your phone, which is most of what Deadliner knows about you.

To delete a server account and everything attached to it — your profile, team memberships, and any focus status — email [email protected] from the address on the account and it will be removed. You do not have to give a reason.

Children

Deadliner is intended for students in higher education and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects what is collected, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
